Carlo Giorgi

Very rare and impressive brass chandelier with rhubarb leaves, designed by Carlo Giorgi, published by Bottega Gadda, Milan, Italy, 1970s.

Made to order for an important staircase, the extra height of the chandelier can be easily adjusted, by removing or adding the highest part. The height is either 90 cm or 160 cm.

Bottega Gadda was founded in 1970 by Carlo Gadda, a sculptor, painter, engraver and drawing teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts. Gadda began working and experimenting with precious metals and stones. Inspired by the naturalistic themes of the Arts and Crafts movement, he then concentrated on creating decorative objects in brass, copper, pewter and bronze.

Among his most remarkable collaborations are the unique light fittings designed by the architect Carlo Giorgi. Handcrafted with exquisite skill, they take the form of large rhubarb, ginkgo or wisteria leaves in curved and chiselled brass.
Bottega Gadda ceased production in the 1990s.

Often wrongly attributed to another Italian designer, Tommaso Barbi.
