Eames DAR, first edition

Rare first edition of the DAR* armchair by Ray & Charles Eames;

Published by Herman Miller / Zenith Plastic, produced between 1950 and 1954 in Gardena, California, publisher’s stamp under the seat.

First edition also called “Rope Edge due to the presence of rope at the edge of the fibreglass shell. Manufacturing process limited to the first edition, later abandoned;

Over 70 years, the chair has developed a unique patina, the original “Red Orange” colour having changed to salmon pink. The fibreglass is particularly visible, yet remains translucent as can be seen in the photos.

A rare piece of museum quality!

We are extremely lucky to be able to present you 4 of the 6 colours of the first edition of Eames armchairs, and a folding screen from the same private Swiss collection! Discover them in the “New arrivals” and “Seating” sections.
