Rare set of six model 6800 chairs by Kurt Thut for Dietiker, Switzerland, 1983.
The stacking of the components on threaded rods, like beads on a string, is the defining feature of this design. The seat rests on a thin MDF panel, connected to a second horizontal plane situated below. The seat thus has the static height of a frame, yet does without one thanks to the interlocking effect.
Thut did not begin by sketching a form; he wanted the form to be suggested to him by a good idea. This is the crucial point. This approach brings Thut into line with other renowned designers such as Enzo Mari, Jean Prouvé and the Eameses.
